Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can see the Southern White Rhinos. Run by a private non-profit organization the sanctuary was established in 2005 to provide a secure area to those wonderful creatures and to protect them from poaching and other dangers.
Upon installation of this sanctuary there were only 6 rhinos living there but due to the organization's effort and protection the population grew over years. At the moment, there are 33 Southern White Rhinos living in this habitat and rangers are monitoring and observing the animals 24/7 to ensure their protection.
Besides the rhinos, the Sanctuary is also home to 40 mammal species like hippopotami, antelopes, monkey and also to crocodiles and various bird species.
As Rhinos are generally tough to spot in the wild due to their decreasing global population and shy character this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to encounter those beautiful animals!
